Radio Maldwyn came on air on July 1st 1993, serving the bulk of Mid-Wales.
The Magic 756 broadcasts a mix of music from the past forty years, along with local news, sport and community information in a tried and tested fashion that has made the station indispensable for people who want to know what's going on in the area.
Broadcasting twenty four hours a day on AM, it's signal can be heard over a huge area of Wales and the English borderland. As a result of this, the presenters regularly take calls from listeners way outside its prime coverage area. Stoke, Wrexham, Crewe, Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Telford are just some of the places where it seems there are regular listeners.
Unlike almost any other commercial radio station, Radio Maldwyn continues to offer listeners a variety of specialist music programmes, many of which attract dedicated audiences. Check out our "Meet The Presenters" section for details of these. You'll find programmes featuring rock music, country, jazz and blues amongst others.
The Magic 756 was conceived as a co-operative and much of its early funding came from the Development Board for Rural Wales and the local Montgomeryshire District Council. Both of these authorities have since been replaced. The DBRW was merged into the larger Welsh Development Agency some years ago and the MDC has been superseded by Powys County Council. This type of investment was curtailed many years ago and Radio Maldwyn now operates as a limited company.
